Frequently Asked Questions
Q) When I try to open a report, why do I get the
message "Cannot open database table (table may be in use)"?
A) When a report is saved, the current a path to each data file is saved with the report. When a report is opened, R&R first looks at the saved data file location and if it cannot find the file there, it then looks in the default report folder that is specified in Options->File Settings Data Folder. If the file cannot be found there, then R&R returns the above error message. If you respond OK to this error, R&R will open a Windows Explorer dialog box so that you can manually navigate to the current location of the table.
Q) When I try to run the Report Designer, why do I get the message "No Available Network User ID"?
A) Either all available designer serial numbers are in currently use or else the program did not exit properly the last time it was run, and the user id is still marked "in use". To resolve the problem run the User Management program from the ReportWorks program group and if necessary select a user id and choose Unlock to free the serial number.
Q) When I launch the Report Librarian or Data Dictionary Utility, it asks for a Login ID and password. What should I enter?
A) The default Login ID for both Librarian and the Data Dictionary Editor is ADMIN with no password. The RLDOC.PDF file in the \RL subdirectory provides detailed documentation on using the Report Librarian.
Q) The Report Designer launches and runs fine but I am getting an application error when I exit the program. What is going wrong?
A) When you start ReportWorks, R&R installs an R&R PDF Export printer driver for use only with R&R. On exit, we then remove the driver. If there is a problem in the driver installation, such as insufficient access rights to install the driver, no error is displayed until you go to exit the program and we attempt to remove the driver. There are several ways to work around this problem. The first is to grant the user the system right to add/remove printers. The second is to disable the R&R PDF export driver. This can be done by denying execute access to the file CDINTF.DLL (which is the printer initialization file in the R&R program directory) or by renaming/removing this file altogether. Alternatively you can disable the driver by adding the line PDFDRIVER=0 to the [Defaults] section of the file c:\windows\RRW.INI (for SQL it is c:\windows\RSW.INI)
